Gordon Cooper Technology Center Honors South Central Industries at Awards Ceremony

EDMOND, Okla. – Gordon Cooper Technology Center representatives were on hand to celebrate South Central Industries as its 2023 OkACTE Partners in Progress Award recipient Tuesday at the Hilton Garden Inn.

The annual award is intended to honor industry partners who work one-on-one with technology center districts. Each partner is recognized for their commitment to work with technology centers and students. Legislators are invited to attend the event; where our business partners are encouraged to share their CareerTech success stories.

Since 1981 South Central Industries has provided vocational training and employment opportunities to individuals with special needs. Over the past decade SCI and Gordon Cooper Technology Center have enjoyed a mutually beneficial partnership through a variety of collaborative efforts.

In 2017 GCTC developed an immersive curriculum for SCI Peeps to participate in monthly educational, artistic, culinary and safety classes. GCTC works diligently with SCI to design and implement courses beneficial to SCI staff development and accrediting purposes.

When SCI began its expansion from state agency customers to private customers, GCTC was one of the initial organizations to Purchase with Purpose. GCTC recognized their janitorial, office, PPE and furniture needs could be met by partnering with SCI. In 2020, GCTC purchased office furniture to complete their new public safety center and transitioned their toilet paper, paper towel, hand soap and cleaning chemical dispensers to SCI products.

Whether SCI is participating in the GCTC community job fairs or GCTC is hosting SCI’s food truck these two organizations truly exemplify collaboration and selfless partnership.

Gordon Cooper Technology Center is an accredited institution and is one of 29 Career and Technical education options within Oklahoma's globally recognized Career Tech System. GCTC serves an area in East-Central Oklahoma covering approximately three counties. To learn more about Gordon Cooper Technology Center, click here.
