Professional Diesel Technician
Gordon Cooper Technology Center offers full time career pathways to high school juniors, seniors and adults. High School students are eligible to receive math credit for various career majors. Student courses are offered from 8:15 to 11:15 AM and 12:55 to 3:55 PM Monday through Friday. High school student can choose to attend either the AM or PM session, and adult students can choose AM, PM or both sessions. All students must be assessed before entering a career major.
The Professional Diesel Technician program prepares students for a career as a medium/heavy diesel service technician. The course has been developed to follow industry standards whether it's in the over the road truck, off road equipment, construction equipment, power equipment, mobile and stationary equipment and agriculture equipment. These areas are taught; engines, drivetrains, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical, heating and air conditioning, preventative maintenance and hydraulics.
Medium/Heavy Diesel service Technician (1050 clock hours) (39 weeks)
Tuition: $2100 (out of district tuition is double)
Fees: $110
CTSO Dues: $10 (due first week of class) SKILLS USA
ASE testing $46 (done in the second semester)
Program shirts $50 (due by the fourth week of class)
Certification Testing: The content in this program aligns to industry credentials. Credentials that can be obtained are: Student level ASE, Freightliner online training, forklift certification (18+) A/C certification (additional costs), Snap on meter certification, work keys, and the department of career tech competency tests which include; PMI, engines, electrical, brakes and steering and suspension.
Entrance requirements; Acceptable attendance (home school) acceptable grades (home school) and leather work boots and shop attire are required the first day of class. A three-inch, three-ring binder with notebook paper, colored pencils, a pen and a basic calculator are required the first day of class as well.
